The Residents at Anthony James are going Bananas

Anthony James and Lang Nelson are proud to be advocates of the NEAR Food Shelf, and our community has a donation box located in the first-floor lobby. Residents can take their donations down at any time. One of our residents, Linda O., volunteers at NEAR and takes our donations to the food shelf for us. In February, we donated a total of 59 pounds of food.

NEAR received several large boxes of bananas at their location, and because of the banana’s shelf life, NEAR donated a large box to our community. Our resident Linda suggested we have a Banana Bread contest.

WHAT A GREAT IDEA. Residents who wanted to be in the contest came down to the community room and received their free bananas. Who knew we had so many banana bread lovers. Maintenance man Sam and Manager Don judged the contest, with 16 entries. There were so many different types of bread. The judging was tasty and came down to a tie between the two best breads. Tim our caretaker was chosen to taste the two and break the tie.

The winner of the banana bake off was Michele M. with her honey and chocolate chip inspired bread.
